iSendr.com Review

Today I was stumbling on stumbleupon.com and came acros this site, iSendr.com, and it was incredible.  Basically it is P2P (Peer to Peer) file sharing service that is quick and easy.  Any file size can be transfered between two people with a couple clicks!

iSendr.com is a  very simple file transfer service and I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning on or uses file transfer sites.  When I completed a test transfer of a music file, the actual transaction took about 2 minutes.  To make a file transfer, all you have to do is click send a file, choose your desired item and thats it, then all you have to do is copy the url and send it to your friend! You can even password protect your file for extra security.  One thing that I am not sure about is if you have to be online when your friend is receiving the file, because it is a direct file transfer so it does not get sent to a server first, which can be a very big negative if you are sending a file to someone in a different time zone, or if you and your friend arnt always on the computer at the same time.  Other than that, I think its a great site that has a lot of potential, you also have to keep in mind that it is a beta so its not 100% as of now.

So go to iSendr.com and check out this new service!

Google Chrome Quick Tip

As I was surfing the web on my preferred web browser, Google Chrome, I found out a helpful short cut that will definitely assist you.  Its a little trick that will bring back the last tab you had open, so, for example if you are on ItsAllTech and reading your favourite post and you accidentally close the tab, you can press SHIFT > COMMAND > T all at the same time and Chrome will re-open that page.  This also works if you have closed many tabs as well, just keep pressing "T" while still holding SHIFT and COMMAND and then the tabs will come back in the order you closed them.  I hope you all put this little trick to use because it certainly is a helpful one!

FarmVille by Zynga:

Cost: FREE

iTunes Rating: 2 1/2 stars

My Rating: 3 Stars

So, I'm sure MANY of us have either played or heard about FarmVille on their FaceBook accounts, well that insanely addictive game is now available for iPhone and iPod Touch. So right when I opened this it reminded me of the times when I was glued to the computer screen waiting for my grapes to harvest, same music,  and same set up.  What was great, but also expected, was that I was able to link my account on FaceBook to my iPhone so I was able to start with my level 27 farm instead of starting at level 1.  This app is pretty much the exact same app as the FaceBook one, but its on a touch screen device, and the screen is way smaller. Speaking of touch screen, the touch screen experience isn't amazing, I found it slow and un-reliable, and often having to try to click  something multiple times to get it to register.  Now another thing that was weird to me, was that where there should be grass, there is what looks like snow, I'm not sure why it would be snowing but I tried reloading the app many times and still was getting this white snow.  You are still able to visit your friends farms and fertilize their crops, like I said, its pretty much the exact same, but mobile.  This is an overall fun app, if you played FarmVille before, or want to try it out, I suggest you pick up this free app to take your experience to the next level.

If anyone else has that weird snow, comment below.

iOS4 – First Impressions/ Overview

So if any body follows the technology blog site TechnoBuffalo, they will know that one of their writers, Travis Harvey posted an article on how to download and install a full version of the much hyped about iOS4 (iDevice Operating System update) The planned public release was June 21 but as Apple normally does, developers got a pre-release.  Now normally, you have to have a Apple developer membership, to download this OS, but this time you are able to download and install the iOS4, with a little "hacking" for lack of a better word. I jumped on this opportunity and ditched the jailbreak to see iOS4 and write about it! You can read the article HERE.

Now for my thoughts, first off, WOW. This OS is amazing, a huge leap from the older version, even though I know about pretty much everything it does it still amazes me on how different, and better it is!  Lets firstly, start with folders, a feature i will be using frequently.  Folders have been available with jail broken iPhone and iPod Touchs for a while now, but not this nice.  First off, it works seamlessly with the UI and does not leave the home screen!  It just makes a little gap and shows all the apps that are housed in the folder, this is great for organizing, because, like many of you know, you end up with A LOT of apps and sometimes its hard to find them and organize.  Folders does a great job with this, I have three folders right now, but I plan on making more!  But, there is sadly a downside, there is a limit to how many apps you can fit in a single folder, you can have a max of 12 apps per folder, now I dont know about you guys but I have way more than 12 games, and way more than 12 general apps.  I was planning on putting every app that I had on my phone into folders to make more space, well, I can't.

So after I had a small upset with the folders, I moved on, multitasking, also something that could be found in the jail broken world.  Apple was right, they took their time because they needed to get it just right, its hard to provide great multitasking without burning battery and processes.  But with just looking at multitasking for a bit I can see that Apple has really hit the spot,  a clean interface which, hopefully, wont burn battery and take up needed memory.  I can't really say much more about multitasking because there, is not much to it, just double tap the home button and bam, you see the open apps you have and can easily switch between them.  I am going to be using this feature most when lests say im playing a game, and my friend texts me, I can switch to the SMS app quickly and without quitting my game, thats beautiful.  There is also music control with multitasking, just open multitasking ans swipe to the right and you will see pause/play, and rewind and fast forward, as well as the accelerometer lock, which like with the iPad, is very helpful.

As for the mail, mail has changed dramatically, the biggest and best change, is a comunal inbox.  If you are like me, you may have a business email and a personal email, or just two emails for whatever reason, and in the past, you had to switch inboxes to get to a different account.  With iOS4 there is a main inbox, with all your accounts emails in, and then separate inboxes if you want to see emails from a specific account.  I haven't really benefited from this feature yet, because I havent had the OS for 24 hours yet, but I know that this will be a help with emailing.  Another great feature is threads, you can now look at a whole thread of emails in a conversation, so you can see how the conversation evolved, again, I havent really used this feature to develop a major opinion but, then again, I dont even use email a lot so its hard to judge, but it seems pretty cool!

Now a quick note about playlists, ever since the first iPod touch, I have been wanting to create and edit playlists other than On The Go, if I buy a awesome song, I want to put it into my "Legit" playlist right away, and now with iOS4, we can!  If you go to any playlist in your iPod, you will see three options at the top, "Edit", "Clear", and "Delete".  So now you can add, erase a whole playlist and delete certain songs from a playlist that was created on iTunes.  I can't wait to use this feature more, and i'm sure many others will benefit from this feature as well!

There are many other features that I did not talk about in this article, but they will be mentioned in upcoming reviews and articles, I just went over the features that I was excited about and I thought that were the biggest. This was just a quick overview of some additions and my thoughts.

And just a point for some people, I noticed in the comments of the article on how to download the iOS4 people were saying that there was no 5X digital zoom, you have to focus on something by tapping the screen to be able to zoom, its there, dont worry :)

Hey guys and gals! Owen here, with a quick update on what I am planning on doing in the near future!  So as you can see from the title, It's All Tech does have a YouTube account! Our account name is itsalltechnology, and I will be posting a new series..... Owens Beginner Guide to Mac OS!  Basically I will be providing quick and easy tutorials on how to get around and know the Mac OS.  Even if you are a seasoned pro at Macs, still swing by and watch because you never know, you just might learn something!

I was hoping to get these videos out earlier but as many of us highschoolers know its exam time, and its hard to commit multiple hours per night to making videos when I have to study. So, I'm letting you guys know about this now, so when I start making and exporting the videos to YouTube you will be subscribed when they come out!  I will most likely be making a text version of the tutorial for the site so for you non-visual learners there is a tutorial for you! Our YouTube view count is not as large as the one here on It's All Tech so I would love for you guys to subscribe.  Brian and Andrew already have some great videos up and I am planning on making a nice channel layout and hopefully making this channel a success!

So get pumped and SUBSCRIBE!

For the longest time, I was unable to watch my favourite show, Entourage on ninjavideo.net because of the new update of DivX player.  Of course this was a horrible thing for me and I and many others were outraged.  Luckily, there is a work around,

and today I'm going to show you how!

FIRST thing first:

**IF YOU HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED THE LATEST VERSION OF DIVX PLAYER DOWNLOAD IT HERE**

Download the older plug-in for DivX here

THEN:

Go to your HD folder > Library > Internet Plug-ins > DivXBrowserPlugin.plugin

THEN:

Replace the older plug-in with the new (technically old) plug-in

AFTER:

Go to finder > Safari > Right Click > Get Info >  Open the General Tab > and open with 32-bit

When you are done that everything should work!

Locate the Plug-In

Switch To 32 bit

Go to "Get Info"

Lets get real here, two lost iPhones, two? One was a little suspicious, but two is taking it too far. Apple

is just to protective of their products to lose two top secret iPhone prototypes, it's just not possible.  Never has Apple been so careless with their most prized possession,  this is a set up.  There must be a catch, Apple is up to something, whether it is to get people pumped about the new product or just for fun, but this is not a mistake, it can't be.

What do you think? Is Apple losing these phones or is it a set up?

Were can I start with we rule, other than that it in a way, is like MW2, its a love-hate relationship.  We Rule is pretty much farmville, but more, basically, you create a kingdom and build stores and farms and try to make a living.  You can add friends an

d buy and sell stuff to them to make money and mojo, mojo is a special kind of money that can speed up the productions of goods and crops to earn money faster.  This game is great, it keeps you coming back and i find my self checking it a hundred times a day!  You start off at level one were you can make and sell a limited amount of goods, but as you buy and sell, you get experience and level up, at certa

in levels you are able to expand your kingdom to make room for more buildings, farms and decorations.  Now if you remember I said at the beginni

ng of the article that it is a love hate relationship, this is because We Rule may have the worst connection, or server issues I have EVER scene, almost 50% of the time I go on We Rule, it has connection issues or it just wont work. I don't know if this is Rogers fault or the game but it sure gets on my nerves when I have a patch of pumpkins that I need to harvest and they get spoiled.  Im believe that they are trying to fix

this by having having updates but hopefully we see much better improvement soon!  The game also has pretty good graphics and a lo

t of cool features like the "+" witch is a account that you can use with any game that is made by ngmoco witch is great if you like to play their other games (reviews on them will come!)  My suggestion to you is that you go and download this game because one, its free, and two, its a kick ass game that will keep you occupied through those boring classes!

How to free up a lot of space on your hard drive (Mac)

If you are like me, you download random apps, play with them for about 20 minutes, and then forget about them.  But what people may not know is that when you download a application, a DMG comes with it (Disk Image).  And when you have tons of apps on your computer, you have tons of DMG's, which takes up a very large amount of space. The thing is that apps do not always need a DMG to run, so if you remove your DMG's off your computer, it wont effect the apps and you will free up tons of space on your computer. Now don't just go and delete all your DMG's off your computer right now, you need a external hard drive so you can still keep them, but off your computer.

What you will need for this is:

External Hard Drive- I suggest larger than 250GB but its up to you, I have a 640 I believe

You can buy one off apple.ca if you want to be ripped off.... but I suggest you go to tigerdirect.com or be like me and hit up Costco!

Now for the actual process!

1. First you want to open a Finder window and type .dmg into the search bar.  (Make sure to include the . )

2.Create a file on your desktop called DMG's or what ever your heart desires

3.Then you want to highlight all the DMG's you can see, if there is random files that are not DMG's you can hold down Command and then select them.

4. Drag all your DMG's to your new file on your desktop

5. Open your hard drive from your desktop or finder and make sure Time Machine is off, we do not want to back up

6. Once all of the DMG's are moved, disconnect your hard drive and repeat step 3, once you have done that, press command delete and then shift command delete -( Move to trash and empty trash)

You will notice that you will have a lot of extra space after you delete, to check how much space you have open a finder window and look at the bottom, it will show it there. The first time I did this I think it took off about 15 GB off my hard drive..... thats A LOT!

More great tutorials like this will be coming soon!

N.O.V.A is one of those apps where you just want to play all the time! Its refreshing to see a GOOD game in the app store that's not a pick up for five minutes and then regret paying the $5 like most of them out there.  It seems as though many developers have had trouble mastering first person shooters for the iPhone and iPod touch, they just don't really work..... until now!

This app has defiantly raised the bar in my mind for all first person shooters, this is what they all should be like! You do not have to worry about getting your monies worth, this game has so much to do, from its great story mode to online play, you will get more than your monies worth!  Lets talk about the story mode, I haven't really gotten too much into it but it seems as though you are a commander of an outer space army that has to go and defeat a evil army, not too original but it still is enjoyable and addicting! The beginning of the single player adventure is very informative on how to control your master chief look a like and use all the features inducing your gun, grenades and how navigate through the levels.

No lets talk about what I think is this apps major pro, the multiplayer, not only can you play with your friends through bluetooth or wifi, you can create or use a existing gameloft gammer I.D and play with other iPhone user across the world! Now I was about to say that the online play was reliable but the game I was playing just froze on me....... However even though the online has a few kinks in it, its still a great game that will supply you with countless hours of fun! (how many times have you had a host migration on COD...... ya) Graphics for this game are pretty descent, I don't really like to judge a game on graphics normally because as long as I can see whats going on with some detail, i'm fine, so thats why I am not going into too much detail about the graphics. But for people who do care and wont buy a game unless the graphics are good, I would say this has maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10.

Overall this game is the best first person shooters I have played on the iPhone, the controls are smooth and easy to use, the game is fun with awesome story and online play, and it doesn't burn too big of a hole in your pocket!  Also, it reminds me a lot of halo so all you x-box fan boys, grab this game!

If you do get this game for the iPhone or iPod touch be sure to send me a email or a tweet with your gammer name and we will play!

Power Support Black Air Jacket Review

Today I went to the apple store to pick up a case for my new iPhone, out of all of the ones to choose one, I believe that i have found the one!

The Black Air Jacket is a incredibly sleek and light weight case for the iPhone 3GS that goes for around $40.00 (with 2 screen protectors included!).  The jacket is composed of a rubber coated plastic that is virtually weightless, and measuring at a max thickness of 1mm!  The case will cover the back side of the phone excluding the silver bezel and the very top and bottom, like a sleeve of

sorts.  It of course has holes for the volume rockers, vibrate switch and camera.

Now on to my opinion, I love this case and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice lightweight case that will not add too much to the thickness of the phone, however with this lightweight pro comes a con.  For those people who want complete coverage of almost everything, this might not be for you, it does not cover the bezel and parts of the top and bottom, there will be photos of the areas were the case does not cover.  The jacket definitely does the job well though, it covers just enough for a good overall protection and will help prevent scratches and drops very well and will with out a doubt protect your precious phone.  The case has no logo or words that are actually on the jacket, which really makes it look sleek and clean.  Very easy to remove and to attach, however I have not yet tested dropping my iPhone with the case on it and seeing how it holds up after a drop (because even though I trust it, my phone is barely 48 hours old so I do not want to take ANY chances).  This case is also a package deal, for 40 dollars you get the jacket, and two screen protectors, one anti glare and one crystal (I am going to do a review on those as well!) currently I have the crystal one on but I have not yet tried the anti glare so I don't have a strong opinion in the two.

Overall this case is great, sure it wont cover the WHOLE phone, but for me, thats all I need, a little insurance for if I happen to drop my phone.  As for price, i'm not really too savvy on the whole case market but I would say that it is a quality buy and was well worth the money.  If you are in the market for a new case or just like many cases I highly suggest you take a look at the Power Support!

iPhone Talk

This post isn't really a one way post, its more of a open ended post that I hope will generate some debates and comments that will help the users and me!

So my birthday is coming up (April 11) and I was planning with my parents to get a iPhone.  Now I do no of the rumours of a new iPhone coming out mid June, but there hasn't really been to much buzz about it, maybe because it is two months away but look at the iPad, it was talked about for months!  My major topic for the discussion is that do you think that the chance of a new iPhone is big, sure it is time for a update and I my self would love a new iPhone but with the iPad launch and the upcoming sneak peek of the new iPhone OS 4.0 there is a chance it may not happen soon, but rather in the next 6 months or so.  I was also talking to some people about this and apparently in the past when new phones have come, there was a press conference of some sort that basically let people know that a new update is coming.  This has not happened this year which could mean that the new iPhone isn't coming as soon as people thought.  I want your opinion.... what would you do, wait or take the chance that one is not coming in the next two months and get a 3GS, please don't flame on this post saying "What the F*%k obviously the new iPhone is coming Jon4lakers said so" or "Wow you are retarded.." thats just not cool I am seriously wanting some feedback and hopefully all positive.

Pokemon Soul Silver Review

For all you dire hard pokemon fans this ones for you!

Im not going to go in great detail about this game but I will cover a couple of features and whether or not I like it and suggest it to you!

So im not sure if you guys know this but Nitnendo has made yet another pokemon game! This time its Soul Silver and Heart Gold.

These new games are remakes of the Gold and Silver versions for GamBoy colour that came out 10 years ago.

With these new games came quite a lot of new features.... some useless but none the less new.  First off, you can now have any poekmon follow you around the game,  this is kind of cool but I have yet to find a way to turn off which is sometimes anoying.... I dont always want my Scizor following me around wherever I go, however Scizor looks sick but I need a break! Another novelty perk is the pokewalker, this little pocket size pokeball is able to download your pokemon's information, and as you walk around with it, it trains your pokemon.  Sounds cool..... but it hasn't even made it out of my box.

What I like about this game is how it brings back the silver and gold story line, I loved silver and gold back in the day and I think that Nintendo has done an incredible job with these two new games.  I highly recomend it to any pokemon player, veteran or newbie and it will make a great addition into the pokemon series

Facebook Celebrates Their 6th Birthday With a Bang

Facebook is a HUGE part of over 400 000 000  of our lives and has just celebrated their 6th birthday!  And with this birthday, came a brand new look, people have been requesting a face lift [haha get it FACE lift hahaha] for a long time and I think that they did a pretty good job.  The Facebook team clearly put time and effort into the new design, with simplicity in mind everything is a click away, except surprisingly the log out button but ill get to that later.  When I was first using the new UI, I got confused and lost, the notifications and messages were hidden it seemed like, and there was some new overall design features like the online friends list on the left side that freaked me out too. Luckily, Facebook had a help page to help you navigate though the new homepage and then I caught on right away, now I kind of like having my notifications on the top nice and organized!  The ONE major thing that I HATE about this new homepage and if there is a way around it PLEASE tell me, but it is the logout button, where is it? Oh wait I have to "Account" and then I can log out..... NO I love having a quick and easy logout, I don't want to have to navigate through the site to get there, come on Zuckerberg.  But in all fairness this face lift [hahah did it again] was a great one which still needs some improvements, but hey, who's perfect..... other than Steve Jobs

Wait where are the notifications? Oh there they are, why are they hiding?

iPad, Whats Wrong With it?

I’m sure many of us know that Apple’s latest creation, the iPad was released this past week on the 27th.  This product did not only come with a questionable name, but tons of negativity, many people seem to hate the thing, so why did Steve Jobs (Apple.inc CEO) have so much faith in his new baby?  I believe that the iPad is not meant for the “power user” or the tech savvy, but the people whom its targeted for and who will benefit from the device is the average joe, the normal consumer who does not know the different between  firewire and  USB.  Sure the iPad is missing some key features like a USB hub or a “real OS” but I wouldn't go as far as saying it was a fail. unless we are talking about the name.  I think that the people who slam the iPad are looking at it from the wrong angle, I mean, you can hold the internet people!!! But actually, in my optimistic Apple fan boy mind, the iPad is simply a Kindle with benefits, and again I know that it has a backlight and whatever so its not a real e-reader but that shouldn't matter that much. Its going to change the print business like it did to the music business, you’ll be able to download the latest book online through iTunes and subscribe to the New York Times without having to walk outside and pick it off the porch. We also have to realize that the iPad is the first of its kind and will almost definitely be improved within the next year and will be a way better machine.  Will I buy one? No, I don’t have $500 dollars to drop and I have no real use for it, I have a iPod and a computer thats all I need right now, maybe when it grows, but thats a maybe.  What do you think? Is it a ingenious creation, or a miss? Are you getting one? Write a comment on your own opinions and thoughts on the iPad in the comments below!
