Motorola Devour, Fails to Impress?

If you didn't already know, Verizon recently announced a new phone, the moto devour. With a metal body, slide out keyboard, and a superbowl commercial with Megan Fox, you would figure this device would be fairly well received. Although, after reading up on my morning tech news, I quickly realized that no one is particularly excited about this device. At least this is what comments on: Engadget, Gizmodo, Phonedog, Youtube, and Twitter all suggest.

Of the comments most people stated that they though the device was: ugly, bulky, had a small screen, ect. So although, I haven't seen one up close I can at least guess that this is going to be accepted by girls and no one else will really buy it. But, thats not to say there aren't any good things about the phone. For example its metal unibody design is awesome and will probably urge other manufactures to use metals for their devices, it is a great advancement for MotoBlur, and continues to show us that Motorola is very innovative and continues to be.

But, what I really liked about the device was that it proved that, Megan Fox can't sell a phone.

Moto Devour a success or a failure?

AT&T + Android

Something that has been pushed to the side after the introduction of the iPad and this years MWC, this is the fact that AT&T is going to start supporting CMDA Android devices. Now being a huge fan of Android and an even bigger fan of the Nexus One and being an AT&T costumer, I was very angry when Att released no plans of carrying the Droid or Nexus One. Between the horrid service and awful phones (I do not consider the iPhone a "great" device) I was beginning to question why I was still an AT&T customer. But, with AT&T's Plans to start supporting good phone, I might just stay with them. However, the two devices (out of five) that theyhave annouced, I'm not very pleased with. These being the Moto Backfilp and the Dell Mini: The Dell Mini 5:

Dell's Mini is a full 1.5" bigger than the iPhone

This device has been seen running Android 1.6 with a "unique dell skin." With Android, a powerful CPU, and its monster 5' screen, this is not just a phone but a tablet. However, in Engadget's exculsive review of the device they concluded that it fit welll in jean pockets and white near your ear. From what I can gather I think that this will be a great entry into the phone industry for dell. I hope that they will also look into making an Adamo or XPS "like" phone, but for now, I am content with a 5" Android tablet.

I am not a fan of this phone.....

When I heard about AT&T bringing Android to its marketplace, I was expecting a phone with a snapdragon cpu and a 400 x 800 AMOLED screens, this has none of that. This reminds me of my old impression, a feature phone with no function, which is common of AT&T. Its not to say this phone isn't cool, it's innovative slider function is pretty cool, but Android is capable of sooo much more. And I hope to see this potential fulfilled with one of the remaining 3 Android phones they have yet to release, but if they don't ... goodbye AT&T.

Overview: I hope that AT&T, will deliver some kick-ass devices this summer, but for now I am not very impressed, although I am happy they have taken the first step. And I have faith that they will deliver some great devices.

HTC Legend FCC Approval

After WMC 2010, there was one device I just couldn't get off my mind and that was the HTC Legend. And It has just recently been cleared by the FCC!!! However, no information on whether or not it is destined for the USA or not, the first landing of it is thought to be Germany. And to conclude this short entry, lets look at a picture of the gorgeous device:

Windows Phone 7: The Hardware

As you all have probably heard Microsoft has introduced Windows Phone 7, I this post I am going to cover some of the Hardware. Since Microsoft has gotten serious about Mobile phones (FINALLY) they have set certain specifications for their hardware. "Those Companies that are serious about Software should make their own Hardware" -The Father of Software.

First lets take a quick look at the bueatiful device we saw at the WMC:

Heres a list of features we can expect in the Windows Phone 7 Series:

Large WVGA screen with a single aspect ratio (which means BlackBerry-style devices won't be readily available to begin with)
Five specific hardware buttons required: Start, back, search (a dedicated Bing button), camera button, and power -- no more, no less
Capacitive multitouch
CPU and GPU requirements (beginning with Qualcomm's Snapdragon as the go-to processor)
WiFi
AGPS
Accelerometer
FM radio
High resolution camera

So as you can see it is a beauty. But, thats not the point the point is Microsoft finally in the game, with a revamped OS and GOOD hardware that is NOT allowed to contain crapy features like resistive touch screens. In the future I hope that we will see some awesome devices! However, this is not enough to make me give up Android or my Nexus.

New iPhone: Rumors/Overview

Today, I am here to talk about what will soon consume all of tech. news this spring/summer the fourth generation iPhone.

Rumors:

It could be in an aluminum "unibody"
Screen size could possibly be increased to 4"
It might make the trip to Verizon
It might gain a webcam allowing it to utilize video chat via ichat
Increased RA Space
A New 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor
Thinner by a few millimeters
Increased number of Home Screens

Aluminum Unibody: Similar looks to a MacBook Pro, strong unibody would enhance strength and longevity.

Some possible designs: these are all assumptions...

Probability: 45-55%

Will At&t lose its exclusive iPhone contract? Will Verizon Step in and take the iPhone under their wing?

I think that At&t will continue to monopolize the iPhone, they have to much invested in it and it dominates a large portion of At&t's marketshare for them to lose it.

Probability: 15-30%

Mobile iChat? One of the largest Rumors is that the new iPhone will ship with a "front-facing webcam" allowing you to Video chat on you iPhone.

Probability: 35-45%

1 ghz Qualcom Snapdragon Cpu? I think that this is highly probable, considering that all new super phones contain one.

Probability: 85-100%
Overview: In 2007 Steve Jobs and friends gave us the iPhone, saying that other cellphone companies weren't innovating enough. Well come 2010 three years and three iPhones later, it is apple that isn't innovating. HTC, Samsung, Google, even Microsoft has stepped up to the plate to innovate mobile technology. So, considering this, I think that the Fourth Generation iPhone will innovate once again.

Will Windows Phone 7 Sink or Float?

At WMC 2010, we gotta our first look at Windows Phone 7 Series, in this post we take a closer look at it. First off, Windows Phone 7 is not just a revamped Windows Mobile, it is a new OS built from the gound up. In, the past Windows Mobile has been called a lot of things, however, it was never called "Great" or "Awesome" or even "Pretty". So the one of the main questions at WMC 2010 was if Windows Phone 7 was going to finally change this.

Revamped with a Zune HD look, Widows Phone 7 looks like it might be able to finally right Microsoft's previous wrongs. Here is a look at it:

Windows Phone 7: Microsoft's Reincarnation of Windows Mobile

As, you can see the OS, uses blue tiles to represent shortcuts to Mail, SMS, and Calling. It also incorporates a vertical home screen similar to your Facebook wall, very different from iPhone OS, Android, and Web OS, but then again, isn't Microsoft always different? I'm, not sure if this is a bad or good way to organize the home screen, but I think that I like horizontal home screens better. A new feautre that I am a bit excited about is Xbox Live support. Now, I'm not saying I want to play halo 3 on my phone, but it would be nice to see some games finally emerge onto Microsoft's Mobile Platform. Also improved are the specs that each Manufacturer of a New Windows Phone must follow, like capaciative touch screens! No longer must we suffer from resistive touch screens!

So, is Windows Phone 7 A better OS than Windows Mobile. YES! Not only is it prettier, not requiring a "skin" OS to make it look good, and it looks to be more functional. Apart from the Re-Tooled OS, the hardware on these new Windows Phones looks to be much better that previous Win. MO. Phones, like the HTC Pure.

HTC Desire a Better Nexus One?

Nexus One: Launched on T-Mobile Also as an Unlocked Device

HTC HD2: Launched on T-Mobile With a Huge 4.3" Screen

During the WMC we saw a huge new selection of devices from HTC. After the Release of the Nexus One and the HD2 we have come to expect even more from them. With the Nexus, with its 1GHz CPU, 3.7 inch display, and Google support and the HD2 with 1 GHz CPU, 4.3 inch screen, and Window Mobile 6.5, HTC has raised the bar for Smartphone...again. But, the gorgeous Nexus One and HD2 were only the start.Now they have introduced more devices, like the HTC Desire and Legend at WMC 2010. These new devices continue to seamlessly blend screens, a 1Ghz cpu, and great features into one beautiful device.

The Desire on the bottom left, is HTC's very own version of the Nexus One and as you can see it is pretty much the same. On the bottom right is the beautiful Legend, which is thought to be a new version of the Hero, which is pictured in the middle. I have to say I really like the aluminum body of the Legend, it reminds me of my MacBook Pro and like the MacBook Pro, it is one beautiful piece of hardware. Hopefully this device finds its way to the US!

The HTC Hero: To Be Replaced By the Legend?

As you have probably noticed the only difference in the Phones is this newly added Optical track-pads as well as the four buttons on the bottom of the phone. Now I haven't used the optical track-pad yet so i'm not sure what to think of it. However, I love the Nexus One's Track-Pad and i think I will favor the physical trackball over the optical one. But, until I can test one out myself, I remain open-minded.

Are these new superphones all that much better?

This is was my main question. While the new HTC phones are prettier they have the same power as the Nexus and HD2. So, while the Legend my replace the Hero, I think that HTC built the Desire to widen the options available to their costumers, not to challenge the Nexus.

So, is HTC's Desire better than the Nexus One? Did Google and HTC, working together, create a better device than HTC alone? Well I think that this is mostly a matter of personal preference, the hardware is exactly the same with the exception of the trackball to optical sensor and the different buttons on the bottom of the phone, so it depends on if you like sense or just stock android 2.1 better.

Being the owner of the Nexus One and a Droid Eris, I personally can say that I like the Nexus better than the Desire. But, its up to you...
