According to a report from Bloomberg, T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom is in talks to acquire the fifth-largest wireless carrier in the United States, MetroPCS under the T-Mobile brand name. If the two companies were to merge, T-Mobile would still be the fourth-largest carrier in the U.S. (even adding MetroPCS's 10 million customers), behind Sprint.
The report claims that the company's board will be meeting tomorrow to approve the deal.
The plan includes putting the U.S. operators into one company in which Deutsche Telekom will hold the majority of shares, the Bonn-based company said in a statement today, confirming a Bloomberg report. Deutsche Telekom’s supervisory board is scheduled to meet in Bonn tomorrow to approve the transaction, people with knowledge of the matter said, asking not to be identified because the plan is confidential.
