Research in Motion reports Q3 2012 financial results: $235 million net loss

Research in Motion (RIM) today reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2012, announcing a net loss of $235 million and a revenue of $2.9 billion. The company actually beat analyst expectations ofб═$2.49 billion in revenue for the quarter, but continued to struggle with poor sales numbers. RIM shipped 7.4 million BlackBerry smartphones in Q3, and 130,000 BlackBerry Playbooks.

RIM is expecting an operating loss in the fourth quarter of this year as the company continues to transition to its next-generation operating system, BlackBerry 10.
