According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple's next-generation iPhone will feature a new display technology called "in-cell" to make the screen thinner. A thinner display would in turn make the device itself both thinner and lighter as well.
The technology integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer. The absence of the layer, usually about half-a-millimeter thick, not only makes the whole screen thinner, but improves the quality of displayed images, said DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase.
The next iPhone is expected to launch sometime later this year.
