Today, Microsoft announced that it will be acquiring enterprise social network Yammer for $1.2 billion in cash. The Yammer team will join theб═Microsoft Office Division, and will continue to report to company CEOб═David Sacks. Yammer, which was founded in 2008, allows corporations to create their own secure, private social networks that employees can then use to interact with others at the company. The social network has more than 5 million users.
Yammer will continue to develop its standalone service and maintain its commitment to simplicity, innovation and cross-platform experiences. Moving forward, Microsoft plans to accelerate YammerБ─≥s adoption alongside complementary offerings from Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics and Skype.
