According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Sprint will be joining AT&T and Verizon Wireless as the carriers for the next-generation iPhone. The report claims that the iPhone 5 will launch in "mid-October" and will be available from all three carriers at the same time.
Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier's lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.
Sprint is also reportedly going to carry the iPhone 4, hinting that Apple will be keeping the current iPhone around as a cheaper alternative to the new device.
Apple exclusively launched the iPhone on AT&T's network back in 2007. Earlier this year, Verizon Wireless picked up the iPhone 4. Rumors of the iPhone coming to Sprint are certainly not new, but nothing has ever been announced so take this report with a grain of salt.
