The guys over at iFixit are currently in the process of tearing down the new Apple TV, searching for interesting components and features. iFixit has discovered that the new Apple TV features 8 GB of on-board NAND storage, something Apple never mentioned during the announcement because of the focus of streaming with the new device. Also, the new Apple TV sports 256 MB of RAM which is the same amount as the iPad and iPod touch fourth-generation, but less than the 512 MB found in the iPhone 4.

Other notes:

  • Carries the same Wi-Fi chip as the iPad, and A4 processor that is developed in-house by Apple
  • There is an empty space next to the onboard storage chip, possibly for another storage chip that didn't make final production
  • There are solder pads on the logic board that match Apple's 30-pin dock connectors perfectly
  • The power supply rating comes in at 5.95 watts
