Research in Motion (RIM) has released the newest version of their mobile application store, BlackBerry App World 2, today. App World 2 has been in beta testing with developers, but is now available to the general public.

What's new in BlackBerry App World 2? Developers can no longer charge $2.99 for apps. The new paid app options that developers can set are either $0.99 or $1.99.

Customers can now purchase apps using major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. Since charges can go through using your credit card, direct carrier billing may be available on certain networks.

Some other changes include a new featured apps tab, including the top 25 lists for free apps, paid apps, newest apps, recently updated apps and themes. Finally, a feature that is well-known by Android users, QR barcode scanning, is now available for BlackBerry users in the newest App World. QR barcode scanning is the ability to scan a bar-code type image and be taken directly to the app in the App World without having to search.

A final note to developers: RIM will now be taking a 70/30 split, instead of the 80/20 split previously. Both Apple and Google take a 70/30 split on application purchases as well.
