According to tweet counting service, GigaTweet, Twitter surpassed 20 billion tweets since it was launched in 2006. The 20 billionth tweet comes just two months after the popular social networking website surpassed 15 billion tweets, and just about five months after it reached 10 billion, indicating that the website is gaining in popularity, and gaining fast.
Back in early February of this year, Twitter announced that it was getting around 50 million tweets per day, but with the World Cup that wrapped up earlier this month, those numbers probably increased dramatically, helping Twitter to get 20 billion tweets.
The 20 billionth tweet has been identified, coming from the user @GGGGGGo_Lets_Go.
Twitter has not made an official comment at this time.
