An update to the Skype app for the iPhone has just been accepted into the App Store. The update adds multitasking/background capabilities to the popular VoIP client app.

Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

In a blog post going over the release, Skype has announced that they have dropped plans to charge for calls made over the 3G network, support for which was added in the previous update to Skype. The company had previously noted that they planned to charge for 3G phone calls.
