Do you want your iPod touch to be more like an iPhone? One difference between the iPhone and iPod touch is that, on the iPhone, the Videos and Music applications are combined into one "iPod" app. This is not the case on the iPod touch. Here's how to get the iPod app on the iPod touch.

A few notes as always:

  • We only tested this on iOS 4.0
  • Your device must be jailbroken to do this
  • It's All Tech is not responsible for any data loss that may occur

Step 1: Download and install OpenSSH from Cydia (search for it)

Step 2: Restart your device

Step 3: On your computer, launch your favorite FTP application. On Mac, it is good to use CyberDuck and on Windows, a good one is FileZilla.

Step 4: After you launch the FTP application, create a new connection with the following settings:

  • SFTP as the file transfer type
  • The server should be the IP Address from your device (ON YOUR DEVICE: Go into the Settings app>Tap Wi-Fi>Find your wireless network and click the blue arrow next to it. Then, find the IP Address (first item) and make note of it)
  • The port number should remain the default
  • The username is root
  • The password is alpine

Step 5: If you are using an iPod touch 2nd generation, navigate to: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N72AP.plist

If you are using an iPod touch 3rd generation, navigate to: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist

Open this file in a text editor.

Step 6: Find the string that says:

<key>microphone</key>

<true/>

Under that string, add this code:

<key>unified-ipod</key>

<true/>

Step 7: Restart your device.

That's it. After you restart your device, you should notice the "iPod" app on your home screen.
