How to use your iPhone/iPod touch as a memory stick

Chances are you carry your iPhone or iPod touch almost everywhere you go. Also, chances are that you don’t always carry a USB flash drive everywhere (although you might), but what if you need some file on there and you don’t have it. Well, with a app from the App Store, you can use your iPhone or iPod touch as a memory stick and always have your files with you.

The app that you need is called Memory Stick (App Store link, $0.99). It’s probably one of the most simplest apps I have ever used on my iPod touch – seriously. All you have to do is download the app, install it on your iPhone or iPod touch, go to iTunes and under the manager for your device, select the “Apps” tab. Then, scroll down until you see the header File Sharing. From there, select Memory Stick and add files. They will be automatically added to your device in the Memory Stick app.

File Types supported:

  • Text documents
  • PDF
  • Images
  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • ZIP files

Other cool features include the ability to create and modify existing documents, import documents from the web, copy + paste support, the ability to take a picture using the camera on the iPhone and import it, and send documents via email.

The application requires iTunes 9.2, as well as iOS 4 being loaded on your iDevice.

This is probably one of the best applications I have on my iPod, not to mention one of the easiest to use.
