Engadget is reporting that Microsoft has killed production of their social networking based phones, Kin One and Two.
According to the report, sources close to Microsoft told Engadget that Andy Lees, Senior Vice President of Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business has merged the Kin line into Windows Phone 7, along with canceling the European Kin launch, which was scheduled for later this year. Less claims that this occurred because of poor sales.
Microsoft's official statement:
We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.
This announcement comes just says after Verizon released plans to reduce the pricing of Microsoft's Kin line of phones. Even though Kin was short lived, may it rest in peace.
