Rumors were floating showing reference to a subscription based PlayStation Network. Today at E3, or Electronic Entertainment Expo, PlayStation made PlayStation Plus official.

The original PlayStation Network will not charge, but PlayStation Plus will be charging $50 dollars a year, or $18 dollars for three months. The first three months are free.

With the PlayStation Plus service, you get tons of premium content, including "hundreds of dollars of products" throughout the year, access to early beta's, and Qore. Plus members will now be able to send voice messages, and invite users to games even if they aren't subscribed.
