MacRumors is reporting that Valve Software has announced in a short press release today that Steam for Mac OS X is scheduled to be released to the public on May 12th. Steam will bring a of game distribution platform to the Mac platform.

A closed beta is currently ongoing with developers testing the different features and it seems like a significant amount of testing has already been completed.
