Opera today announced that they have submitted its Opera Mini web browser for the iPhone to Apple for approval. Just under a month ago, Opera was showing a Opera Mini for iPhone beta at the Mobile World Congress, promising that the app will be 6 times faster than Apple's Safari Mobile.
Today's announcement from Opera begins the countdown of if and when Apple will approve the first non-native web browser on the iPhone OS.
Opera has also posted a video showing Opera Mini for the iPhone and comparing it to Safari:

Some people did not think that the 3rd-party web browser would be accepted into the App Store since it will be directly competing with Apple’s Safari web browser. var disqus_url = 'http://itsalltech.com/2010/04/12/opera-mini-for-iphone-approved-by-apple/ '; var disqus_container_id = 'disqus_thread'; var facebookXdReceiverPath = 'http://itsalltech.com/wp-content/plugins/disqus-comment-system/xd_receiver.htm'; var DsqLocal = { 'trackbacks': [ ], 'trackback_url': 'http://itsalltech.com/2010/04/12/opera-mini-for-iphone-approved-by-apple/trackback/' }; (function() { var dsq = document.createElement('script'); dsq.type = 'text/javascript'; dsq.async = true; dsq.src = "http://itsalltech.disqus.com/disqus.js?v=2.0&slug=opera_mini_for_iphone_approved_by_apple&pname=wordpress&pver=2.33"; (document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0]).appendChild(dsq); })(); [...]
