Twitter has add many reports of wide-spread spam tweets and hacks recently, and to prevent future attacks, Twitter has announced tonight that a new service will be able to “detect, intercept, and prevent the spread of bad links” from tweets.

In a blog post made by the company today, Twitter notes that the protection works by “routing all links submitted to Twitter through this new service … even if a bad link is already sent out in an email notification and somebody clicks on it, we’ll be able keep that user safe.”

Twitter has also announced that their own link shortening service, "twt.tl," will be used from now on in Direct Messages and email notifications to help protect users from spam and other threats.
