Internet users from around the world gathered today to officially lay Internet Explorer 6 to rest. Internet Explorer 6 support was killed on March 1st, 2010, about 8.5 years after its initial release. The Internet Explorer 6 team even sent flowers to the funeral.
Many websites, including Google have been cutting IE6 support. Google announced that YouTube and Gmail IE6 support will be cut over the next few months.
Internet Explorer 6 still owns about 20% of the browser market share because of Windows XP being one of the most popular OS' used.
Microsoft also sent a card along with the flowers to the funeral of IE6, that said “Thanks for the good times IE6, see you all @ MIX when we show a little piece of IE Heaven.”
