Apple today announced that Wi-Fi only models of the company’s iPad will go on sale on Saturday, April 3rd in the United States only. The 3G models will be available later in April, as well as the Wi-Fi models to other countries. U.S. pre-orders will begin on March 12th for all iPad models.
Apple today announced that its magical and revolutionary iPad will be available in the US on Saturday, April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. In addition, all models of iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April.
Beginning a week from today, on March 12, US customers can pre-order both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store (www.apple.com) or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store.
Apple also announced that its iBooks application, offering access to the iBookstore, will be available in the U.S. App Store on April 3rd, with other countries to follow “later this year.”
A report that showed up earlier this week said that the iPad would be on sale on March 26th, turned out to be false.
When Apple first announced the iPad, they said that Wi-Fi models would be available in late March and 3G models would be available in April. According to Daring Fireball’s, John Gruber, the reason for the delay is not because of hardware or production issues, but is rather because of Apple finishing up the software for the iPad.
