Two years after Apple introduced the first Unibody MacBook, patents for the design have been granted for the revolutionary manufacturing process. Two of the patents are titled "Portable computer" and show the design of the MacBook Air. Another one is listed as "Electronic device," and apply to Apple's aluminum MacBook Pro. The patents were originally applied for in 2008 and 2009.

The Unibody is a manufacturing process that Apple created, which creates computers out of one slab of aluminum, instead of multiple, increasing reliability and decreasing size and weight. It was first introduced in 2008.

All of Apple's portable computers have transitioned over to Unibody casing, including the plastic MacBook.
