Microsoft Research has begun work on a project that allows users to translate text while talking on a phone almost in real-time. Microsoft Research unveiled the early beta, giving an example of a German to English translation between two employees.
The official release is still months away. In tests performed at the announcement, the phone showed slow response times while translating text.
Google has recently shown their own product that has similar features to Microsoft's. Google is expected to incorporate their own translator in Android OS and other products as well. Google showed an example of the phone translating a dinner menu in English.
