Apple released the third beta SDK of iPhone OS 3.2 yesterday and developers have been hard at work trying to find more evidence of a camera and other unannounced capabilities of the iPad. Turns out they were successful in finding more information.
In the Apple private framework of the SDK, code has been found showing zoom, a front-facing camera and flash references. This code was not found in previous beta’s of the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK.

It seems like Apple built in API support to test to see if the iPad had a front-facing camera, zoom and flash. These all lead into the next piece of evidence found, video conferencing references.
We reported a few days ago that references to video conferencing in the code of the SDK were found and now, 9to5Mac shows icons that appear to show a interface to accept or decline a video chat on the iPad.

No one knows why Apple decided to leave out a camera in the iPad, but evidence in the iPad’s outer frame shows that there is space for a camera, meaning that Apple was planning to include a camera in the iPad, but scratche it out in the first generation.
